Ten years after Jimi Hendrix’s death, in 1980, the supposedly ‘posthumous’ Hendrix album Free Spirit, was released to much craze and praise. The only problem is that “Free Spirit” is not a Hendrix record whatsoever, on all ten songs you will hear Atlanta based musician Herman Hitson singing lead vocals and playing lead guitar. Herman Hitson still hasn’t received due credit for Free Spirit, but he continues to rock 40 years later; his most recent album, I Should Have Kept My Big Mouth Closed, was released in 2013. Hitson has played with the likes of Bobby Womack, Wilson Pickett, Major Lance, Jackie Wilson, The Drifters, The Shirelles, Joe Tex, The Midnighters and others.
